How Jesus Meets Us Where We Are

One More Touch: How Jesus Meets Us Where We Are

Have you ever felt like you needed just one more chance? One more opportunity to get it right? Today we're looking at a unique miracle in Mark 8 that shows us how Jesus meets us exactly where we are and gives us that "one more" we desperately need.

A One-of-a-Kind Miracle
In Mark 8:22-26, we find a miracle that appears nowhere else in Scripture. Jesus heals a blind man, but He does it in stages - not instantly. This unique healing reveals something profound about how Jesus works in our lives.

The passage tells us:
  • A blind man was brought to Jesus
  • Jesus took him by the hand and led him outside the town
  • Jesus spit on the man's eyes and put His hands on him
  • The man saw partially - "people like trees walking around"
  • Jesus touched him again, and the man saw clearly

This isn't just a story about physical healing. It's about how Jesus meets us in our blindness and leads us to clarity through a process.

When Jesus Takes You Out of Your Comfort Zone
Notice what Jesus did first - He "took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town." Jesus met this man where he was, but He didn't leave him there. He led him away from the familiar.

Why? Because sometimes our comfort zones become places of:
  • Ritualistic habits
  • Negative patterns
  • Low expectations
  • Complacency

The blind man was likely accustomed to begging in the same spot day after day. He was used to being treated as unclean, being ridiculed, and feeling unworthy. Jesus took him away from all that.

What comfort zone is Jesus trying to lead you out of today? Maybe it's:
  • Seeing prayer as just a box to check
  • Viewing church as a ritual
  • Treating your job as a burden rather than worship
  • Seeing your family as less than the gift they are

When "Spit Happens" in Your Life
One of the strangest parts of this miracle is when Jesus spits on the man's eyes. Why would Jesus do something that seems so offensive?

For the blind man, being spit on was probably a familiar experience - but not in a good way. People likely spat at him as they passed by, treating him as a nuisance. Yet Jesus uses this seemingly negative action as part of the healing process.

There are moments in our lives when "spit happens" - when difficult, uncomfortable, or even offensive things occur. But God can use these moments for healing and transformation if we trust Him through them.

Genesis 50:20 reminds us: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good."
What looks like an inconvenience might actually be God's intervention. What appears to be your past might actually be God's preparation for your future.

Seeing Clearly vs. Seeing Partially
After Jesus' first touch, the man could see, but not clearly - he saw "people like trees walking around." This partial vision represents how we often see things in our spiritual journey.

We form opinions and share them based on partial understanding. We think we see the whole picture when we're only seeing part of it. We confuse facts with truth.

Here's an important distinction:
  • Facts make up truth but are not the same as truth
  • Truth deals with the original source

If you have pain in your arm (fact) and take medicine for it (fact), you might later discover through an X-ray that you have a broken arm (truth/source). The facts were real, but they didn't reveal the full truth.

In our world today, people are losing sight of truth. Remember: Truth is an absolute standard by which reality is measured. All truth is God's truth, and if we're willing to seek truth, we will find God.

The Power of "One More Time"

The most beautiful part of this story is when Jesus touches the man "again" - giving him one more touch that brings complete clarity.

Many of us need that "one more" from Jesus:
  • One more touch of encouragement
  • One more revival of our passion
  • One more healing
  • One more chance

The world tells us we've gone too far, sinned too much, or strayed too long for God to give us another chance. But Jesus is the God of "one more time."

Like a GPS that keeps recalculating when we veer off course, Jesus is always ready to redirect us when we go our own way. He doesn't give up on us when we choose our own path.

Life Application

This week, I challenge you to:
  • Identify where you need "one more touch" from Jesus. Is it in your faith, your relationships, your purpose, or your passion?
  • Replace your negative "what ifs" with positive ones. Instead of "What if I fail?" ask "What if God is for me?" Instead of "What if things get worse?" ask "What if God uses me to change someone's life?"
  • Allow Jesus to lead you out of your comfort zone. What familiar patterns or places is He asking you to leave behind?
  • Trust God in the "spit moments" - those uncomfortable or painful experiences that He can transform into healing.

Ask yourself:
  • Where have I been seeing things partially instead of clearly?
  • What comfort zone am I clinging to that Jesus wants to lead me out of?
  • What "one more" do I need from Jesus today?
  • How can I walk differently after encountering Jesus?

Remember Hebrews 5:9: "And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him." Jesus is the perfect source of what you need today, and He's ready to give you one more touch.
